Kali

Adnate is an Australian mural artist who specialises in portraits, usual of indigenous peoples. He was invited to paint this stunning wall at the recent Street Prints Mauao festival held in December 2017. The wall is one of several in Phoenix Lane.

Intergalactic Planetary

Intergalactic Planetary is by Gary Silipa, painted for the Bradley Lane 2017 event. Over the years the murals for this event have spread out across the Glen Innes shopping precinct, this mural can be found down Stratton Lane.

Comfort Stops

Comfort Stops is by well known potter and brick sculptor Peter Lange. Made from brick, terracotta, concrete and mosaic the pair of chairs were first displayed at the headland Sculpture on the Gulf 2011 exhibition. The sculpture is now on permanent display in Alison Park on Waiheke Island.

Drift

This sculpture by Miriam Von Mulert is a visualisation of Paula Green's poem 'Drift'. The rolled, blasted and laser cut sculpture can be found on the Whangarei Sculpture Walkway on the Hatea Loop.

Hinerangi

Hinerangi, carved by Sunnah Thompson, of Te Kawerau a Maki, can be found along the Mercer Bay loop walk south of Piha. A sign here describes the carving.... 'This Pou specifically relates to an early Tupuna, Hinerangi, a chiefly young Ngaoho woman named in honour of a renowned Turehu ancestress. After losing her husband to a tragic fishing accident Hinerangi sat on the headland at Te Unuhanga o Rangitoto (Mercer Bay) for days until she too died of a broken heart'. Abbreviated.

Tui

It seems every time we visit Henderson there is another mural by Kākano Youth Arts Collective for us to add to the map (www.outdoorart.nz). Love the bold use of red on the background for this one, a real standout. This mural can be found on Henderson Valley Road under the rail overbridge.

Haven't added any painted utility boxes to the map in a while...so here is one to be found on Glenbrook Rd (just after the turn off to Paerata but heading towards Waiuku). The box was painted by TnT Murals.

When There's Something Strange

'When There's Something Strange...' is by brothers Numskull and Roach who traveled from Sydney to Taupo to paint this mural for the Graffiato festival in 2012. This mural shows a good range of their typographical work while adding a touch of nostalgia for Ghostbuster fans.

Stumbled across this bus stop on Coronation Road in Mangere Bridge the other day. By Charles & Janine Williams we figure it must be have been painted quite recently as we often visit the market here on Sundays but only noticed it last week. Eleventh Ave

This mural on Eleventh Ave in Tauranga is 'living mural'. As the view of Mount Maunganui changes the artist, Benjamin Lloyd, returns to the mural to make the appropriate update, new buildings added and changes to the Mount kept fresh. Even the greenery around the edges has recently extended around the wall.

On Ponsonby Road (down an undercover driveway) is this mural by Adore. A beautiful piece and a loving tribute to her grandmother Joyce Gardner (1931 - 2015). This is the 8th piece that we have now added to her page at Adore

Blockhouse Bay

This slidehow is not from one mural but from a series of 7 murals of historical photographs of the Blockhouse Bay area. Painted by Louis Statham the murals can be found on Kinross St at the Blockhouse Bay shops. The captions on the murals say: 1. Richmond Road

Not sure exactly when this painting got swapped out. This wall on Richmond Rd in Grey Lynn was painted by Charlotte Hawley Creative, it used to sport a number of Piwakawaka but now there is this magnificent Tui. If you want to see the original birds go to the Full Map at www.outdoorart.nz and find the marker on Richmond Rd you can then cycle through from the new mural to the old. We don't just show you the art on our streets but keep a history of the changes as well.

Pet-i-cure

Five more cow murals from Morrinsville added onto the map! Pet-i-cure was painted by Brian Torrey, a self taught artist with a passion for painting wildlife. It can be found outside the Morrinsville Veterinary Clinic on Moorhouse St.

Kone Fitu

Kone Fitu is made up of seven macrocarpa totems incised by hand with symbols referencing ancient motifs found on tapa, tatau, and Lapita pottery. Created in 2007 by Fatu Feu'u the sculpture can be found in the sculpture park at The District, part of the Auckland Airport business precinct.

Kell Sunshine

Created a new page at Kell Sunshine for our 103rd Featured Artist : Kell Sunshine (Kelly Spencer). Working out of a studio in Wellington Kelly is a freelance graphic artist specializing in meticulously designed beautifully coloured calligraphy. This mural was painted in late 2017 and can be found on Maunganui Rd in Mt Maunganui.

The Search for Answers

The Search for Answers by Gary Silipa is located on Pearce Street in Onehunga. Only the top two thirds of the original mural remain, the rest has been covered over by a commercial piece advertising a tattoo business.

Short Sunderland MR5 Flying Boats

Just updated a marker on our map at Rangitira Rd, Beach Haven with a better photo. A plaque for the mural describes the scene as 'Short Sunderland MR5 Flying Boats moored off Beach Haven wharf. RNZAF No. 6 Squadron operated 16 of these large maritime patrol aircraft from 1952-1965. Residents of Beach Haven would hear the roar of these big planes as they operated out of Hellyers Creek and the upper harbour.'

Our first mural added to the map in Napier was sent in by Calien Edmonds. The mural was painted for the 2nd PangeaSeed Foundation’s Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans event held in March 2017. The mural is by Russian artist Rustam QBic.
