Francis J. Williamson was a British sculptor who was commissioned on a number of occasions to create busts of Queen Victoria. In 1900 he created this full sized bronze statue of the Queen to commemorates the Golden Jubilee of the founding of the Canterbury Settlement. The statue rests on a foundation stone that was laid by His Royal Highness, The Duke of Cornwall and York in 1901 with the statue itself being unveiled to the public on the 25th of May 1903. Nelson Settlers Nelson Settlers

This mural by Whangarei artist Steve Pike (Spike) commemorates the breaking of ground by the first plough used in the Nelson region. The mural, painted in sepia tones to replicate the look of an old photograph, shows John Kerr, an early emmigrant to the region, with his team of bullocks and plough at the Hardy St site cutting the first furrow in the Nelson soil on May 25th, 1842.

In 2019 Brigita Bell @manabeldesign took on this massive project to paint the three visible walls of the toilet block at Kariotahi Beach. The end result is this standout mural that conveys a message for us all to pay attention to the natural environment of our country and preserve it in a beautiful state for future generations.

Lisa King is an Australian mural artist who has produced a number of large scale portrait based murals. In New Zealand she has painted a wall in Whangarei for Street Prints Manaia and contributed this wall on Durham St, Tauranga for Street Prints Mauao 2020.

Blue Koura Blue Koura

On this @chorusnz cabinet on Lake Road, Taupo, artist @paulxwalsh has re-imagined the cover of the album Nevermind by Nirvana replacing the baby in a pool chasing a dollar bill with a koura and the NZ ten dollar note. Koura are the freshwater crayfish found around New Zealand, Paul has given the koura in his mural a bright blue colour in reference to the fact that shell of one out of a thousand Koura are coloured bright blue.

Serenade by sculptor Judith Streat was installed in Fendalton Park in Christchurch in 2010. The sculpture is designed to potray a couple dancing in a loving embrace their forms represented by two stylised leaves. The sculpture remembers the Christchurch pioneer Warpole Cheshyre Fendall who settled in Christchurch in the 1850's then waited three years for his bride Lucy to join him from Britain. Pohara is a small settlement near the eastern end of Golden Bay at the top of the South Island. A popular summer getaway the population of the small town can increase four fold over the summer break. Our first artwork on the map from Gisborne is Flower Mountain by local artist Leah McCann. Leah was born and raised in Gisborne where she works on creating stunning artworks for sale. Flower Mountain is a massive mural painted on a wall on Bright Street behind the public library, the mural was painted as part of the Pangaseed SeaWalls Tairawhiti event held in 2019.

More isometric art from Wellington based artist T-Wei, a wonderful piece in black and white. This mural is found down one of the service lanes in Taupo, it was painted for the 2014 Graffiato festival. When next in Taupo have a wander down the many service lanes to see a plethora of fantastic artworks such as this one.

The Living Cloak mural on The Terrace in Wellington was created by Ellen Coup in 2006. The mural covers a 175 sqm wall with a magnificent scene representative of New Zealands diverse and spectacular landscape. Stand out features from the mural include a river with wetland, and native trees lining the sides of a peaceful lake with a snow covered mountain in the background. Pin Wall Pin Wall Pin Wall

Pin Wall is a collaborative artwork from two of New Zealands leading artists, Sara Hughes and Gregor Kregar. Pin Wall was installed on the outside wall of Tai Ahuriri, Napiers combined museum, theatre and art gallery in 2015 and became an instant attraction. The artwork is made up of 5,000 brightly coloured oversized 'pins' that project outwards from the building at various lengths and different colours to create a three dimensional floral pattern.

The Blockhouse Bay Tennis club is a multi-million dollar sports facility with 5 indoor and 5 outdoor tennis courts making the game of tennis available to members year round. In 2015 Bobby Hung (Berst) collaborted with Danae Ripley to create this mural on the outside wall to welcome visitors and members to the club.

This mural on the outside wall of the Opotiki College Gym celebrates the best of Opotiki. From the pouwhenua on Waiotahi beach just outside the town to the sporting activities available at the college. The mural has an underlying anti-drug and alcohol message for the students at the college.

Lyrical Sky Lyrical Sky

Lyrical Sky by Lina Marsh is a mural found on the corner of Childers Road and Grey Street in Gisborne. The mural is dedicated to the birds of Tairawhiti who are seen as kaitiaki of seed dispersal, a metaphor for the diverse range of people who have settled in the region. The birds detailed are the kotare (sacred kingfisher), karearea (NZ falcon), tui and piwakawaka (fantail). Lina Marsh is a is Niuean-Maori artist, a painter, weaver and creator of object art.

On the front wall of the @catlinscafe in Owaka is this lovely native bird mural, featuring a piwakawaka, tui and a hoiho (yellow-eyed penguin). The Hook Line and Sinker mural was painted by Ross Liew (TrstMe) for the 2016 Napier Seawalls festival. The mural comments on the complexity of ensuring our seas are managed in a sustainable manner with the need for the humble fisherman, the NZ fishing industry and the world as a whole needing to play their part.

Kiwi Boy is the work of Rotorua sculptor Jamie Pickernell an artwork designed for people to engage with, situated along the Whakatane River Edge walkway the sculpture is selfie picture perfect. Kiwi Boy is from a series of Bird People sculptures created by Pickernell that includes Bird Lady, one of the Permanent sculptures in the Aucklnad Botanic Gardens. Kiwi Boy is a reference to past times where a lookout was stationed on the front of the trading scows to spot sandbanks or floating obstructions in the river.

MV Waipa Delta MV Waipa Delta

This unsigned mural in a carpark off Harwood St in Hamilton shows the iconic paddle steamer the MV Waipa Delta. This vessel was a replica of the original paddle steamers, the Waipa and the Delta that provided transportation for the european settlers of the Waikato. Built in Tauranga in 1985 the MV Waipa Delta operated for many years cruising the Waikato river providing lunch and dinner cruises for locals and tourists.

Running alongside the tracks of the Wellington Cable Car is this magnificent mural painted in 2016 by Kapiti artist Ellen Coup. The mural shows the iconic cable car throughout the ages, in her design Ellen has used historical photographs as inspiration to capture the changes to both the cable car and its passengers over its nearly 120 year operation having opened to the public in 1902. The cable car line runs for 628 metres between Lambton Quay and Kelburn, passes over three bridges and through three tunnels. Photo kindly supplied by Ellen Coup

Oracle, the Future is in Our Hands Oracle, the Future is in Our Hands

Outside the Stoke public library in Nelson you will find 'Oracle, the Future is in Our Hands' a bronze sculpture created in 1996 by Grant Palliser. The sculpture symbolising the nurturing qualities of the Nelson region, from the many sheltered bays and surrounding mountains to the way the people of the area embrace the arts and crafts. The hand extends out of the ground beside the library in a gentle caring gesture as if offering support and shelter to all visitors.

Morpheus 2 Morpheus 2

Morpheus 2 is an adaptation of a sculpture that Phil Price created for the Waiheke Sculpture on the Gulf event. Morpheus 2 takes a similar form but was created as a permanent installation in the Marlborough Lines park beside the Taylor River in Blenheim. This kinetic sculpture is a perfect blend of engineering and art designed to change shape with the gentlest of breeze but also able to withstand gale force winds.

Pania of the Reef Pania of the Reef Pania of the Reef

This mural called 'Pania of the Reef' was painted by James Bullough for the Napier Seawalls festival in 2017. Located on a wall between Dickens and Station Streets the mural depicts the beautiful maiden Pania who, accordingly to a Maori legend, was a creature of the sea, guardian of the reef off the Napier foreshore. She is represented in this mural floating above the barren reef, destroyed by rising acidity levels in the sea due to climate change, while she too is slowly dissolving.

Seaweed Seaweed

The message in this brightly coloured mural by Alex McLeod is plain and clear to see, seaweed is responsible for releasing more than 70% of atmospheric oxygen into the air that we breathe. Alongside this, with some species also play a role in the capture of carbon, it is a resource that we need to protect.
