Rainbox Warrior Memorial Rainbox Warrior Memorial

The Rainbox Warrior Memorial Mosaic was created by Jan Morrison of Tile Art from a design by Vicki Worthington, assisted by Claudia Pond-Eyley. The mosaic was completed for the 30th anniversary of Greenpeace in September 2001. The Rainbow Warrior was a Greenpeace protest ship which, in 1985, was sunk by a bomb in Auckland Harbour. The bombing was carried out by French government agents in an attempt to disrupt the Greenpeace campaign against French nuclear testing on uninhabited atolls in the Pacific Ocean.

Te Awa - Our River Te Awa - Our River

The Motueka Mural project was first proposed by Vision Motueka in 2012 and after consultation with the community it was decided to create nine themed murals around the town to help transform Motueka more into a destination rather than a drive-through town. The Te Awa - Our River mural was one of the first four murals to be painted by volunteers under the guidance of lead artist Alex Burnett. The mural which celebrates the activites that can be enjoyed along the Motueka River was completed in 2015.

This collaborative mural was created in 2017 by Adore (Emily Gardner) and GASP (Liam Hindley), it is one of the Berryman Lane murals from Palmerston North.

This distinctive design on the water tank in the Parihaka car park in Whangarei is easily recognisable as the work of Melinda Butt (@min_butt). Oamaru stone is the favoured medium for Wanaka sculptor Elizabeth Hall, an example of her works can be found in the picturesque setting of Queenstown Gardens. Fleur takes the form of a woman dressed in a full length gown sitting in a contemplative pose balanced atop a stack of cushions.

Flip Flip Flip

The kinetic sculptures of Phil Price feature in a number of New Zealand cities. This sculpture named Flip was a joint commission by the @tauposculpturetrust and the @taupodistrictcouncil. Flip was Designed in 2010 and located in Colonel Roberts Reserve on the Taupo lake front, the sculpture features four precision made red tablets that stand upright when the wind is calm but accurate independently in concert with the wind as it gusts in off the great lake.

The Scott statue located at the intersection of Oxford Terrace and Worcester Street commemorates the Antarctic explorer Robert Falcon Scott who perished on the ill-fated expedition to reach the geographic South Pole. The party of explorers, led by Scott, reached the pole on 17 January 1912 but failed to make the return journey alive. Weta to Orca Weta to Orca Weta to Orca Weta to Orca Weta to Orca

From the undergrowth to the sea this mural on Adelaide Rd in Wellington captures some of the wonderful wildlife found around our country. Look closely along the length of the mural to find some weta, tuatara, kiwi, ruru, kakapo, takahe, kereru and, at the large end, a maki (orca), along with a myriad of native plant species. We are slowly catching up with all the @boonstreetart 2019 murals, this mesmerizing piece is the work of Wellington based artist T-Wei. His art style makes great use of an isometric perspective presenting organic elements in a way that challenges the eye to discover where the object ends and the creature begins.

Claire Rye (@paintmypanda) has been busy again in Birkenhead on Aucklands North Shore. This electrical cabinet has been nicely decorated with a native bush scene complete with a few of our native birds, the Ruru, Kereru and Karuhiruhi.

On a @chorusnz cabinet in Parklands, Christchurch an unknown artist has painted of a number of ladybirds to bring life to the otherwise dull green telecoms box. Soapbox Soapbox Soapbox

This piece of public art called Soapbox was commission by the Auckland City Council and installed in Killarney Park, Takapuna on May 25th 2019. The artwork was design by a collective of artists and is the third piece in a series that pays homage to Kate Sheppard and the women's suffrage movement in New Zealand. Designed for public speaking its chosen location near the historic Pumphouse Theatre would also make it viable as a platform for the performing arts.

Kotare Kotare

Gynelle Blake is a New Zealand artist based in Blenheim, she has been responsible for painting a number of @chorusnz cabinets around the Marlborough town including this beautiful native bird, the kotare (sacred kingfisher). Look for this cabinet on the corner of Maxwell Rd and Whitney St in Blenheim.

Drover and Dog Drover and Dog Drover and Dog

Drover and Dog was sculpted in 2003 by local artist John Fuller. Fuller moved to Fielding in 1953 to take up a position as Head of Art at the Feilding Agricultural High School. During his time in Fielding he contirbuted a few pieces of public art, the largest be Drover and Dog which pays tribute to the shepherds, stockmen and drovers who have worked with the land and have been the lifeblood of the Fielding District.

Although he has not been actively painting outdoor works in Auckland for a number of years the works of Doug Ford are so plentiful that we are still managing to find murals and utility boxes that we were previously unaware of. This large mural, painted in 2009, is located on Mackelvie St in Ponsonby on the side wall of the Micky B Fitness and Boxing Gym. The activities goings on inside the gym are shown in glorious detail in a style that is uniquely Doug Ford.

Nick, one of the Morrinsville @herdofcows, was painstakingly painted by Mikey Samuelson taking around 100 hours to airbrush a blend of Friesian cow and V8 engine to create this hybrid bovine masterpiece.

Raglan Raglan

The coastal town of Raglan is a well known holiday spot in the Waikato region its major drawcard being the long surf break at Manu Bay. This wall outside the Raglan Town Hall was painted in 2006 and @danmills.
