This massive mural in Glen Eden down Bakers Lane was painted by Heathermeg Sampson and shows features of the Waitakere Ranges. Too hard to frame in one photo and a slideshow doesn't do it justice either, if you are in Auckland head out to Glen Eden to see it in person

Te Korowai o Papatuanuku

Te Korowai o Papatuanuku (the Cloak of Mother Earth) stands at the summit of Mt Parihaka in Whangarei. The carved stone commemorates the return of the ancestral name to the sacred mountain. The mountain had originally been given the misspelt name of Parahaki but in 2005 the name was officially corrected to Parihaka which refers to a war dance (Haka) that took place on the parapets (Pari) during a battle in the 1820's. The stone was carved by Master carver Te Warihi Hetaraka.

From a Withered Tree a Flower Blooms

With so much fantastic public art to be added to the map it is hard to keep up with all the new murals popping up around the country. The Bradley Lane 2018 festival was held in October adding a number of new pieces to the already impressive catalogue of artworks down the Glen Innes backalleys and in the town centre. This mural was painted by Charles Williams while Janine was creating her own piece just around the corner. Love seeing the kowhai in bloom.
