This is the 29th piece by Doug Ford on our map. This one was painted in 2010 and can be found in Royal Oak. More stylised native birds, you gotta love those big eyes, a common theme for Doug Ford

Te Atatu

We recently revisited Te Atatu to get a better photo of this mural by Cliff Uepa. If you love big colourful murals then put this one on your must visit list, the amount of detail and variety of themes is outstanding.

De Loo

Another public toilet turned into an artwork, this one using wrought iron to create a 'tree of life' around the public facility. This installation was designed by Dave Vazey and was installed on Onehunga Mall in 2002.

Te Pou

Created in 2012 by Ngati Whatua o Orakei carver Katera Maihi these seven Pou are not your traditional carved post. The Pou are made from stainless steel and represent the cycle of education, beginning with Te Kakano (the seeding of the thought and student) and ending in Tiki Tiki o Rangi (the highest heaven or ultimate achievement).

Better Never Stops

Originally designed as the backdrop for the Auckland Blues 2013 Super Rugby campaign this mural by Askew One is now the backdrop for a car sales yard. Visible from the Southwestern motorway it hopefully still inspires Aucklanders to achieve more, it didn't help the Blues though, they finished the 2013 season with 6 wins to 10 losses. NZTA

Painted by Flox in May this year as part of a campaign by the New Zealand Transport Agency to promote more cycling around the country. The aim is to get 10 million more trips made by bike by 2019. This mural can be found at the top end of Dominion Rd in Kingsland.

Wish was painted by Caitlin Moloney for the BOON Hamilton street art festival 2017. The mural can be found on Grey St in Hamilton East.

Lions Tour

Sorry we are late to the game, no pun intended. This mural was obviously created for the 2017 Lions Tour of New Zealand. A collaboration between Emily Gardner (Adore) and Liam Hindley (GASP) painted in May this year.

Clay Carpet

Clarks Lane Footbridge crosses the Upper Harbour Motorway at Hobsonville. Beside the stairs leading up to the bridge and crossing the bridge itself is this artwork named Clay Carpet by Matt and Kate McLean. The clay titles are made from locally sourced clay and are formed into the tread patterns of various tires. Featuring screen printed images that recount the history of the Hobsonville area, including topographical contour maps, weather maps as well as some of the planes based at the nearby airfields.

Riff Raff

Embassy Park on Hamilton's Victoria street is home to the RIff Raff sculpture created by Weta Workshop. Riff Raff is a character from the Rocky Horror Picture Show, the cult musical created by Richard O,Brien. The whole park has been given a Rocky Horror theme with other elements such as the background mural, painted by Jeremy Shirley and other metal works the largest being the floating chandelier created by Marti Wong.

Clarks Beach

Updated the map with higher quality photos of these two utility boxes, and to credit the artist. Both can be found in Clarks Beach and were painted by Helen Parsons, the first in 2007 and the second in 2013.

2017 Devonport Arts Festival

From the 2017 Devonport Arts Festival comes this nautically themed mural by Marcus Watson. The mural can be found on the exterior of a boat builders premises on Wynyard st.

Mega Cow

Unveiled in June this year Mega Cow is part of the Morrinsville Herd of Cows. While we have added the other colourfully painted cows as murals to the map Mega Cow is more of a sculpture. Standing 6.5m tall the sculpture welcomes visitors as they arrive at the western end of the Waikato town.

Kia Kaha, Kia Maia, Kia Manawanui

Created in 2016 and installed at the rear of The Village Church in Ngaruawahia is this mural by Charles and Janine Williams. The text Kia Kaha, Kia Maia, Kia Manawanui translates as Be Strong, Be Courageous, Be Willing.

Waitakere Library

Here is another great mural from Kākano Youth Arts Collective, this one featuring more of our native birds. Kokako. Piwakawaka and Tieke in larger than life detail in an alcove outside the Waitakere Central LIbrary in Henderson. This mural really brightens up what would otherwise be a dark, drab access way.

Figure in a Landscape Head

With 'Figure in a Landscape Head' Terry Stringer presents a sculpture of the human form that changes shape and subject depending upon the viewing angle and perspective. This sculpture is a part of the sculpture garden at the Wallace Arts Centre in Three Kings.

Startlight Cove

Monarch butterflies and tigers in the playground make up a uniquely painted transformer by Monique Endt on Startlight Cove in Hobsonville. A wonderful additional to a small suburban park with a children's playground.

Rugby League World Cup

A new mural in Huntly beside SH1. This is just a part of a larger mural for the Rugby League World Cup, it was still a work in progress when we took this photo.

Omaha

This is one of four pou whenua to be found along Omaha beach. Unveiled in 2005 the pou have recently been refreshed and a dash of new colour applied. This impressive pou marks the southern end of the beach and stands over 2m in height.

Raukura O Te Koroto

Raukura O Te Koroto or "Te Koroto’s precious feather" is a simple shelter at Wenderholm Regional Park that was inspired by a Kereru feather. The sculpture was created by Nic Moon and incorporates a huge overhead bird bath and plantings of native trees to attract Kereru to the site. The project celebrates the 50th anniversary of Auckland's Regional Parks.

Morrinsville RSA

Standing guard outside another RSA, this one in Morrinsville, is Poppyanzac, one of the Herd of Cows. The artwork is by Janet Barratt and Adrian Worsley and pays tribute to the World War II heroes of Morrinsville.

Pare Watene

In this mural Hamilton artist BS McLachlan reproduces the 1878 Gottfried Lindauer portrait of Pare Watene of Ngati Maru. The mural can be found in a side alley in Hamilton East.

Karuhiruhi

Painted in September this year is this utility box in downtown Auckland by Paul Walsh. Karuhiruhi (or pied shag) were classed as nationally vulnerable but are now slowly recovering.There are several colonies around the Auckland harbours, if you want to see some in the flesh (or is that feather?) visit the small colony by the Panmure Basin at dusk, at the end of Watene Rd and to the right of the bridge.

Mairangi Bay

Tiger time in Mairangi Bay. No signature but we are pretty sure, nearly 100%, that this mural was painted by Adore, who else paints such lifelike tigers on walls around Auckland?

Sandpit

This is the toilet block in a small park opposite the Sandpit Holiday Park, painted in 2014 by Jonathan and Abbey, Jonathan's company 'Impact Art' has created a number of murals on the North Shore particularly around Whangaparoa and Orewa, this is the third on the map at NZ Outdoor Art

Waiuku Fire Brigade

Here Claire Erica depicts an image of an early fire engine from the Waiuku Fire Brigade, the mural was reproduced from an old photograph after being redrawn to fill in some obscured detail. The mural can be found on an exterior wall of the Waiuku Museum.
