In November last year the exterior of the Manurewa Squash club was transformed from a graffiti target to a colourful artwork. Under the guidance from Gary Silipa, students from the Manukau Institute of Technology spent nine days painting the mural supported by the Manukau Beautification Charitable Trust Find it on the map at NZ Outdoor Art (on Weymouth Rd)

Gateway, carved by the Aronui Trust Carvers has welcomed visitors to the Te Puke o Tara community centre since the 1990's. Built in the 1970s the centre is due for redevelopment this year.

Went back to Stratton Lane in Glen Innes to try to get a better photo of 'The Art of Giving' by Andrew J Steel without all the cars in the frame. Almost successful but had to cut off the far right section coz their was still one car parked in front. Grrr.

More housekeeping...when we first visited this transformer painted by Monique Endt it had been heavily tagged. Thanks to a graffiti guard coating and a bit of cleaning we can add a much better photo.

This mural was painted by Denise Fort Art as part of the first Hamilton Street Art Festival in 2015, it can be found in a car park just off Collingwood St. Or viewed on our map at NZ Outdoor Art This is marker number 975 on the map!

How to turn a toilet block into a work of art? Get the master of corrugated iron, Jeff Thomson, involved. Created in 2010 this sculptural piece needs to be visited in person to appreciate the detail of the work, inside and out.

Placed either side of the south entrance to the Auckland War Memorial Museum are two granite urns. This sculpture by Brett Graham is named Whaowhia which translates to 'storehouses of knowledge' and symbolises the role of the museum in preserving and educating about the past. The urns, one white, one black have objects in relief carved onto the surface and represent objects found within the museum.

Prodigal Child by Paul Radford can be found in the grounds of the TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre. The sculpture uses oversize models of commonly prescribed drugs as a commentary on modern society's overdependence on quick fixes to our social ills.

The Smokefree Hendo mural outside the Waitakere Central Library was painted by Kakano Youth Arts Collective in 2016. The mural is part of an initiative to encourage a smoke free environment in the Henderson town centre and wider Henderson-Massey area.

On the side of the Cheltenham Milk Bar and Dairy is this impressionistic view of Rangitoto painted by Greer Clayton Artist The mural was painted in April this year as part of the Devonport Arts Festival a biennial event showcasing local artistic talent. Biggie Smalls or The Notorious B.I.G. was one of Americas most influential rappers. Born in 1972 he released his first album in 1994 but was killed just 3 years later in a drive by shooting in Los Angeles. This mural commemorating the rapper is one of several large murals by Owen Dippie in Ashworth Lane, Mt Maunganui.

Mr G (Mr G Hoete Art) is currently working on an art project with Farmlands to create 15 murals promoting community pride in rural towns throughout New Zealand. Several have already been completed, this mural on the Farmlands building in Paeroa was the first to be unveiled. This is marker #999 on the map at NZ Outdoor Art

When we started our mission to put public art from around New Zealand on a map so that others could find and enjoy the wonderful art on our streets when didn't realise just how much we would find! So far we have only covered from Auckland to Rotorua and we have already added 1,000 markers to the map. Oh yes, this is marker #1,000. Parnell Rose is by Paul X Walsh and can be found on St Stephens Ave in Parnell, Auckland. Of all the artists we have featured Paul is by far the most prolific with 39 pieces on his page (Paul Walsh) each one colourful and unique.

In 2013 pupils from Takanini Primary School, supported by the Safer Papakura Trust and the New Zealand Police, created this community mural on Princess St, Takanini. The title 'Te Kotahitanga o Takanini' means 'united Takanini' and acknowledges the strong community involvement and support in creating the artwork.

This sculpture in the grounds of the University of Auckland Tamaki Campus is titled 'Nga Takerenui a Tamaki' or 'Twin Hulls'. The sculpture was created using galvanised mild steel in 2006 by Robert Jahnke considered one of New Zealand’s leading contemporary Maori artists.

One of the Morrinsville Herd of Cows, Moofanwy (pronounced "Moo-VON-wee") was painted by Hally Barlow sponsored by Images Day Clinic.

Standing at the entrance to the Hamilton Gardens is 'Nga Uri o Hinetuparimaunga' by sculptor Chris Booth and the late Diggeress Te Kanawa (1920-2009) who was considered NZ's most renowned weaver. The sculpture is made from 21 columns of Hinuera stone, five of which are protected by a kakahu cloak made from 12,000 quartz pebbles and 1,000 greywacke pebbles.

'Takanini Life' was painted by Mark Balute in June this year. Mark was one of five artists chosen in the 2017 Chorus Cabinet Art competition in partnership with the Manukau Beautification Charitable Trust. This is the second cabinet painted by Mark, his first can be found on Casuarina Rd in Highland Park.

This is a collaborative mural in Caro st, Hamilton painted by Mik Shida and Eno incorporating styles from both artists. Eno (Mikaere Gardiner) hails from New Plymouth while Mik Shida visits NZ from Australia's Gold Coast.

Fallen is by Christchurch born Sam Harrison. Working with wax and concrete the life sized human sculptures created by Sam either turn away from the viewer or, as in this case, cower in a corner as a comment on the fears we share surrounding the fragility of the human body.

On Patterson St just off Sandringham Rd is this reasonably well preserved mural. We don't know anything about the mural except that it was painted sometime before 2009. If anyone knows more, especially who the artist was, please let us know.

The murals painted on the toilets behind the shops at Torbay are simply signed as Sarah C. We think we can be reasonably sure these were painted by Sarah C Art. Check out her facebook page and website at Sarah C Art and see if you agree with us.

Hinaki / Guardian by Virginia King represents an eel trap but can also be seen as a female figure. The sculpture extends through a hole in the Hobsonville Point Wharf allowing for a view to the water below. Surrounding the artwork are two engraved rings with text from the poem 'Eel' by Fiona Farrell, one of New Zealand's leading writers.
