The Ellerslie Garden Mosaic was created in 2013 by friends Mei Ling Lee and Jude Nye. Featuring phoenix palms and Norfolk pines and native birds perched in the branches. The mosaic references the Ellerslie Flower Show which of course is no longer held in Ellerslie, or even Auckland for that matter. Another project turning a toilet block into a canvas.

On what we assume is a pump station, Louis Statham has painted a mural on each side of the structure. These are two sides showing Great South Rd in Papakura and the old Papakura Fire Station. To see the other two sides go to the Full Map at www.outdoorart.nz and find Queen St in Papakura.

Long Modified Bench Auckland was a temporary sculpture commissioned as part of the celebration for the re-opening of the Auckland Art Gallery. At the end of the installation the Edmiston Trust negotiated with the artist (Jeppe Hein) to re-site the sculpture in the Auckland viaduct on Waitemata Green, renaming it Long Modified Bench Waitemata Green in the process.

Outside the Waikato museum, suspended by wire overlooking the Waikato river, is Ripples created in 1987 by Neil Dawson. Like the ripples from a stone thrown into the river.

We have found a number of painted boxes similar to this around the Manukau area, today we finally discovered who paints them. Claire Erica is a New Zealand painter who uses photographic observations of the environment as the inspiration for her work.Just added this box to the map at NZ Outdoor Art Map and will be updating the other markers to add Claire as the artist.

Sculpture #250 is 'Pride' by James Wright. This is actually a sculpture fountain situated outside the Pukekohe War Memorial Town Hall. The script cut into the sculpture details all the reasons to be passionate about Pukekohe beginning with 'Pukekohe New Zealand Food Basket Fertile Soil Market Gardening...'

Behind the Henderson rail station is this mural by Doug Ford featuring Maurice Shadbolt, Maurice Gee and Dick Scott reminiscing about Henderson Valley. If you look closely behind Maurice Shadbolt, through the window, you can see Swan's Arch. Read more about the myth behind Swan's Arch here...Link

This latest utility box by Paul Walsh can be found on Volcanic St in Balmoral. The artwork needs to be viewed from multiple angles to really appreciate the effect so get on down to Balmoral to check it out. While you are there you can hunt out 'Fear of a Black and White Planet' as well.

A painting of a bygone era by Claire Erica on the main st in Waiuku. We nearly missed this one as we walked passed but the calming image amongst the advertising managed to catch our eye.

A Chiara Corbelletto sculpture transforms the sunshade on the facade of the Te Atatu Library. The rosettes mounted on the steel frame face both inward and outward so that patrons and passersby can all appreciate the design.

Mural #350 is the Karioitahi Mural in Waiuku by J D Ashby. The scroll beside the mural details the five insets. 1) Early settlers John and Sarah Holme's Karioitahi homestead 1875. 2) Hump back whale beached at Karioitahi 1913 said to be so big that a man could stand upright in its open mouth. 3) Chum Thomson and brother Fred fishing for mullet at Maioro 1946 4) Thomson's Ayrshire Stud farm Camel Glen from 1902, still operating today. 5) HMS Orpheus, wrecked 1863 with a loss of 189 lives. NZ's worst maritime tragedy.

Slideshow of the mural along the northwestern cycleway at the Te Atatu interchange. This mural was designed by Reuben Kirkwood and painted by Daniel Tippett and Darryl Thompson in 2015.

The Farming Family is a life size bronze sculpture of a farmer, his wife and two children, a cow, a sheep and a dog. Created by Margriet Windhausen in 1990 and gifted to the city of Hamilton by Robert Jones Investments.

This was one of the finalist from the 2016 Chorus cabinet art competition run by the Manukau Beautification Charitable Trust. The cabinet can be found on the corner of Coxhead and Clayton Rds in Manurewa.

Johnny Cash, perfectly captured by Owen Dippie, can be found down Ashworth Lane in Mt Maunganui along with a few other large murals in the same style. It may be an industrial lane but a must visit for outdoor art enthusiasts.

On the University of Aucklands Science Building is Collective Mind created by Alberto Garcia-Alvarez in 1979. Made from 295 hand made ceramic tiles that were bisque fired a process where the pieces are loaded into a kiln and the temperature slowly increased to drive out the atmospheric water. Let it Grow was painted in Devonport on Auckland's North Shore by Kelly Spencer in early 2017. Kelly is a an Illustrative artist, sign painter and muralist based in central Wellington, NZ, best known for her meticulously hand crafted lettering.

April this year saw Tess Sheerin (Artist) Art - tesssheerin.co.nz complete 'Clampfish' the 4th mural in her pollution awareness tour, this one in Takapuna. The mural can be found in the carpark behind the Bruce Mason Centre. This is marker number 950 on the map, www.outdoorart.nz

Updated a marker on the map at Keystone Ave with better images. The mural features some local landmarks of the Mt Roskill/Three Kings area, the Lovelock Track, Pah Homestead and the volcanic cones known as Three Kings, now of course just Big King.

Celebrating the beauty of Hamilton Gardens this mural by Flox, with assistance by Linda Watson, incorporates the national flowers of India, England, China, Japan and Italy into a large stunning artwork in Hamilton Central. This is piece #10 for Flox on our map at www.outdoorart.nz

Depicting the great Maori explorer Kupe Raiatea, his wife Te Aparangi and tohunga Pekahourangi the Kupe Statue was designed by William Thomas Trethewey in 1939. Originally made from painted plaster the artwork was later cast in bronze before being unveiled at is current location near the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.

Michael Parekowhai's Lighthouse is a replica of a state house from the 1950's situated on the seaward end of Queens Wharf, downtown Auckland. The interior contains a stainless steel sculpture of Captain Cook surrounded by a multi-coloured neon light show. The budget for the installation was $1.5 million with $1 million of that being a gift from Barfoot and Thompson.

Catching up on some murals that we should have added to the map a while ago. This one is (obviously) at Olympic Park in New Lynn and was painted by Jonny 4Higher - graffiti and mural artist 'with some local young graffiti artists'.

And sometimes we are just filling in some details that we missed at the time, keeping the database in order and giving credit to the wonderful artists that give their time and energy so that others can enjoy their art. The Henderson mural was created by Kakano Youth Arts Collective in 2015 as part of an initiative helping to prevent vandalism in the Henderson Town Centre.

And it is finished! A new mural showing the Beachlands and Maraetai area highlights the service of volunteers around the Pohutukawa Coast and shows some of the local historic landmarks. Hidden in plain sight right outside Howick College is this painted utility box by Claire-Erica. The painting blends in so well that a friend said, despite visiting the college on many occasions he had never seen this. Happy to have his eyes opened and now on the lookout for more painted boxes, the plain green ones are so boring.

Suspended from the soffit at the entrance of the Albany Stadium Pool is a new sculpture 'Drop a Loop' by Seung Yul Oh. Unveiled in June this year the sculpture adds a dash of colour to the entranceway.
