Mural #400 on the map is entitled 'The Battle of Orakau'. Painted by Te Haunui and Maramena Tuna the mural brings to life the battle of Orakau that occurred in 1863-1864. It depicts how the Te Puru Haka came about, which is a significant haka in Tuhoe. The warrior represents the Tuhoe Iwi, the bull represents the crown and the mist surrounding the warrior represents home for the Tuhoe people (who are said to be Children of the Mist). Just updated the map with a much better, clearer photo of this mural in Blockhouse Bay by Louis Statham. Some days the weather just doesn't play ball and we have to go back and retake some photos when the sun is shining.

In 2016 Bobby Hung (Berst), from UNITEC Institute of Technology, ran a community focused project to create site specific murals in Pt Chevalier. Working with 5 volunteer students (Mia, Toa, Ariana, Tom and Jason) from Western Springs College together they created several artworks around the shopping precinct, including this rather large mural on a wall facing the Countdown carpark.

This mural can be found on the side of the Shelly Beach Store. Painted by Helen Beach in 2005 it was awarded 2nd place in the Resene Mural Masterpiece competition, community mural section.

From Papakura to Waiuku, Drury to Tuakau you will find a large number of painted transformers of landscape or country scenes in an impressionistic art style. Early examples have no signature but later paintings are signed as K S Lee.

On a side wall of the Warkworth Library is this mural by (then) Mahurangi student Grace Newson. The mural was painted in 2014 with assistance by mural artist Adrian Jackman. This is marker #1,050 on the map at Link

Apart from its location we do not know anything about this mural, it is unsigned so we cannot trace the artist. A kiwi / chinese picnic scene complete with a Kotare sitting in the Pohutukawa tree. The mural is on a wall facing the carpark for a chinese health food shop in Mt Albert. It was painted some time between 2014 and 2015.

Another Chorus cabinet painted through the Manukau Beautification Charitable Trust competition. Painted by Erna van der Wat the artwork references the cabinets position opposite a community centre with its own community garden.

Kākano Youth Arts Collective are doing a fantastic job bringing their artistic skills to enliven the streets of West Auckland. This mural of a Kotare can be found on Railside Ave in Henderson a street well worth a wander with over a dozen murals and painted boxes from various artists to admire.

Fintan Magee is one of Australia's leading street artists, he recently visited New Zealand to participate in the Paradox Tauranga Street Art Festival where he painted this multi-story wall in the service lane off Grey Street.

Another mural visible from SH1 as you drive through Huntly. Painted by Bruce McLachlan to commemorate the Allied invasion of the Gallipoli Peninsula in April 1915.

Four pou stand as kaitiaki (guardians) at either end of this bridge across Te Auaunga (Oakley Creek). The bridge is designed to look like a hinaki (eel trap), the pou anchor the hinaki to the stream bed and make reference the story of Maui and Tuna-roa.

Here is a piece by Nathan Cole, of Kākano Youth Arts Collective fame. This mural was painted for the Waitemata Seagulls Rugby League Club home base in Ranui on their 50th year anniversary

Painted Box #316 on the map is a wrap around scene of Kohimarama on an electrical box sited on Eltham Rd. The piece is called 'Kohimarama Sunrise' and was painted by Paul X Walsh in September this year. Nice to find another piece of outdoor art in this part of town, the whole area from Orakei to St Heliers seems to be lacking compared to other suburbs.

A bog standard toilet transformed into an amazing artwork by GASP (Liam Hindley). This was painted in March this year and can be found outside the Te Atatu South Community Centre on Edmonton Road.

Sculpture #277 on the map is our first addition from Waiheke Island. 'Ringatu III' is a steel artwork by New Zealand sculptor Paratene Matchitt, it was purchased by the Waiheke Community Board from the Sculpture On the Gulf exhibition in 2005 and installed in Alison Park off Oceanview Rd.

From Graffiato 2017, the Taupo Street Art festival, comes this impressive mural by Numa MacKenzie (Numa Natures Gentleman). Most of the festival murals in Taupo can be found in the centre of town, down the service lanes. Numa's work can be found on service lane 3.

This pou was carved by Akekatera (Katz) Maihi and stands on a natural peninsula between Orakei Basin and Hobson Bay. It marks the location of the original Orakei Pa a key fortified Ngati Whatua kainga (village).

Mural #420 is a science fiction comic inspired alien landscape on Collingwood St, Hamilton. Painted in 2017 by Craig McClure, a Hamilton based artist and curator.

This was the first large scale mural painted by DSIDE (Damin Radford Scott) after the break up of BMD. The mural is called 'The Last Voyage' and was painted during the 2015 Graffiato Street Art Festival in Taupo.

Added 'The Pioneer Winemaker' sculpture to the map. Created by Anthony Stones in 1995 the sculpture, which can be found on Alderman Drive in Henderson, celebrates the early grapegrowers and winemakers of West Auckland. Photos kindly supplied by Richard Harris.

Placed 3 more painted transformers on the map around the Pukekohe area, all were painted by Sarah Crystal including this colourful cosmic scene on Ward Street. This takes the number of utility boxes up to 321, amazing how many talented local artists there are willing to get out there and brighten up our neighborhoods.

On the wall of the Ngaruawahia Bakery and Cafe (on Great South Road) is this wonderful mural of native birds by Jeremy Shirley. The mural features a Piwakawaka, Tui, Ruru and Kereru, all lifelike in detail. Very similar to another by Jeremy in Birkdale on Aucklands North Shore. He gets around.
