Whare Thompson
Whare Joseph Thompson is a master carver of Ngati Whatua and Ngapuhi descent living and working in Aucklands western suburbs. Whare has completed a number of public artworks in the Auckland region most recently Te Ao Whanui which consists of nine pou whenua, seven simple pou and two intricately carved waka, situatued on either side of the Huruhuru bridge in Massey. Though born in Whangarei, Whare completed his diploma in Maori Art and Design in Rotorua before moving to Auckland where he has had the opportunity to work alongside other Maori artists including Lyonel Grant an award winning carver and author. Whare is currently living in Tauranga.
